Fred Robbins
Warren Frederick (Fred) Robbins was born September 14, 1941 at Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Warren C. Robbins and Freda Shoemaker. Fred attended school in Scranton, Iowa. Fred grew up on the family farm outside Scranton. He later moved to Jefferson with his wife Sandy, where they raised their three children. He worked for Shriver Construction and a local gas station until he went to work in the block and tile business, Mid-Iowa Concrete in Jefferson which later became Marquardt Block Company in Grand Junction. He started out as a truck driver and worked his way up to plant manager, a position he held until his retirement in 2001. Fred had many hobbies throughout his life, most of all he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends. Who could forget “The Bait Shop”. He also enjoyed a great game of cards whether it was Cribbage, Euchre or Scat and it didn’t matter if you knew how to play or not, he was always willing to teach you. Fred died November 14, 2008 at the Greene County Medical Center with his family by his side. He was 67 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sandy; and his brothers Donald Jo and Jim. Fred is survived by his special friend and companion Janis Runyon. Also surviving are his three children: Vickie Nilles (LeRoy) of Rapid City, SD; Rodney Robbins (Sara) of Jefferson, IA, and Nickie Hunter of Ankeny, IA, and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Audrey Morlan, Scranton, IA; Rita Jackson, Denison, IA; Ruth Robbins, Carroll, IA, and one brother: Richard Robbins, Chandler, AZ. |
