Lyle L. (Bud) Blair - age 77, of Paton, Iowa, died on Monday, November 10, 2008, at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge, Iowa. The son of Mark and Myrtle (Wright) Blair, Lyle was born July 1, 1931, at Paton, Iowa, and graduated from Paton Consolidated School in 1949. On November 26, 1950, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Rundle, at the First Presbyterian Church in Paton.  They continued their love affair for nearly 58 years.
Lyle was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in March of 1952 and began serving his country during the Korean War, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC and Naval Air Station, Atsugi, Japan. He was honorably discharged in March of 1954 and returned to the Paton area where he farmed until his retirement in 1993.  Lyle and Mary Jane lived on a farm northeast of Paton from 1957 to 1980, when they moved into the town of Paton. Lyle farmed with Jack Fredrickson and George Walker for many years. During his retirement, Lyle and Mary Jane spent several winters in Fort Myers, Florida where he enjoyed fishing and "getting away from the snow and ice."

Lyle obtained his private pilot’s license in 1978 and took pleasure in being a member of the Flying Farmers organization and flying to flight breakfasts with other pilots in the area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Gowrie, First Presbyterian Church, and Lions Club of Paton, and was always spotted around the grill where he enjoyed cooking for the Masonic Steak Fry dinners, the church’s Memorial Day dinners, and the Lions’ annual pancake suppers. Lyle also served on the Consolidated Coop Elevator Board and as Mayor of Paton for several years. He took pride in being a part of the Paton community and believed in giving back to the community that he enjoyed so much.

Lyle enjoyed fishing with friends, family, and anyone he could talk into going with him. He liked to go to Minnesota and Canada on fishing trips and spent many hours fishing at Spring Lake and motoring about on his pontoon boat at Don Williams Lake.
