Lucille M. Pollock Funeral services for Lucille Pollock, 95, of Jefferson, will be 10:00am Tuesday April 1, 2008 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 12 noon Monday. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 9:00pm Monday. Lucille Mae (Ballard) Pollock was born September 15, 1912 to Arvin and Ethel (Moon) Ballard. Lucille married George A. Pollock on January 29, 1929. To this union were born Marvin, Melvin, Dolores, Opal, Marge and Ron. The family lived in Adaza for several years prior to moving to Jefferson in 1953, where Lucille worked for several families in Jefferson as a housekeeper, as well as for Schoppe’s Café and Truck Haven Café. She also worked with her husband in his lawn care and snow removal business. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Lucille cared for her husband, George, during his long illness, as well as being a caregiver for many of her grandchildren. She was a shining example of selfless love, not only to her family but to friends and all who knew her. She was always willing to help others. Her family was her life. She took great interest in following her grandchildren’s sporting events, and traveled many miles to watch various games. Additionally, she had a great interest in the Cubs baseball team of which she was an avid fan. Lucille Pollock died March 28, 2008 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Greene County Medical Center. She was 95 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents, Arvin Ballard and Ethel Atherton; her husband George Pollock; her sisters Olive DeBaud and Bonnie Hickey; her daughter Opal White; and grandchildren Mark Durbin, Cindy Pollock and Alan Foster; and two sons-in-law: Roy Boyden Sr. and Marion White. Lucille is survived by her children: Marvin (Verla) Pollock of Fort Dodge, IA; Melvin (Michaele) Pollock of Dallas, TX; Dolores (Everett) Mull of Jefferson, IA; Marge Boyden of Council Bluffs, IA; and Ron (Norma) Pollock Sr. of Dana, IA; sisters: Mary Beth Pritchard of Des Moines, IA; Jeri (Jerry) Brown of Bondurant, IA; Orma Cornwell of California; and Peg Atherton-Brain of Des Moines, IA; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. |
