Funeral services for Merle W. Gilroy, 80, will be 11 AM Tuesday March 18, 2008 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson, with burial in Jefferson Cemetery.

Public visitation will start at 1 PM Monday March 17, 2008 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be prior to the service; starting at 9 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Merle W. Gilroy, son of William George and Audrey Smith Gilroy, was born April 13, 1927 in Jefferson, IA. He attended school in Jefferson until he joined the Navy, in 1944; during WW II he served on a destroyer in the Pacific.

He married Juanita Moore of Glidden, IA on March 13, 1946. Merle and Juanita, long time Jefferson residents, have operated several businesses over the years.

Merle Gilroy died March 14, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, IA. He was 80 years of age.  Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 brothers, William Gilroy, Jr. and Victor Gilroy.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Juanita Gilroy, Jefferson, IA; 2 daughters, Kathleen (Kent) Woods and Karen (Lynn) Eubank, both of Ames, IA and son, Chris (Patricia) Gilroy of Story City, IA; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
