Funeral services for Thelma Lorraine Tucker, 97, of Jefferson will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. Interment will be in the Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction.
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 8:00 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008; with the family present from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include 3 sons: Darwin Tucker of Jefferson, Duward Tucker of Grand Junction, IA, and Dennis Tucker of Gowrie, IA.
Thelma Lorraine Norman Tucker, daughter of John and Maude (Wood) Norman was born August 27, 1910 at the family farm near Clear Lake, Iowa. She was the second of nine children. As a child she moved with her family to a farm in Dawson Township, near Paton, Iowa. She attended all eight grades of school in Dawson Township country school. She went to Paton High School, graduating in 1930.
In 1934, Thelma married Melvin Wayne Tucker at her family home. To this union three sons were born: Duward, Dennis and Darwin. Melvin and Thelma made their life together on the Tucker’s family farm south of Grand Junction. The farm became a Century Farm in 2004. Thelma moved into Grand Junction into the Senior Citizens Apartment in 2006.
Thelma was very active member in the United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She received a Gold Special Mission Pin from the W.S.C.S. of the church. She was instrumental in the reorganization of the Greene County Rural Women’s Choir. She was a Charter member of the Dawson Wide Awake 4-H Club. She was a 4-H Leader for the Junction Livewire Club, and Greene County 4-H Committee. Thelma received a gold 4-H pin from the State Department for her 25 years of service. She was very active in many other activities: Rebekah Lodge, Thimble Club, Sunny Sewers, and Pleasant Hour Club. She was president of the Grand Junction Parent-Teacher’s Association, and was a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, and her husband, Melvin in 1967.
Thelma is survived by three sons: Duward and wife Cappie of Grand Junction; Dennis and wife Barb of Gowrie; and Darwin and wife Rose of Jefferson; eight grandchildren: Sonya and husband Tom Fillipi; Ronda and husband Del Kaldenberg, Bradley Tucker and wife Vicki, Steve Tucker and wife Shelley, Rich Tucker and wife Berna, Russell Tucker, Tim Tucker and wife Tara, and Tina and husband Dan Snedden; eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and two step granddaughters.
