Veva Marie Hansen was born into this world on October 8, 1929 to John and Elsie Farley Kersey at their farm southwest of Grand Junction, Iowa.  Veva attended school in Grand Junction and graduated from high school in 1947.  She married Elden Hansen on October 25, 1948.  They were married for 57 years and blessed with three daughters.  They made their home in Jefferson, Iowa, except for a move to Gladstone, Missouri in 1958.  They returned back to their home in Jefferson upon the passing of Elden’s father the following year.

Veva had been an active member of the United Methodist Church in Jefferson.  In the last years of Elden’s life, they moved to Granger, Iowa where they enjoyed their church family at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.  Veva was a wonderful mother and woman, and was dearly loved by her family and friends.

Veva’s life evolved around the raising of her daughters and care of her husband.  She began working for the Jefferson Community Schools in the cafeteria when her youngest daughter entered into kindergarten in 1967, and she loved the interaction with the children of all ages.

After her retirement, Veva and Elden enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren.  After Elden’s death in 2005, Veva moved to Texas to be with her daughter Karel and her family.  Veva enjoyed a wonderful new life of travel, friends, and fun.  She had been looking forward to seeing her youngest grandson graduate from high school, as well as traveling this summer to see friends and family.  She was very active in her church in Plano, Texas and the community is extremely saddened by this great loss.

Veva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elden; and one brother, Lloyd Kersey.

She is survived by three daughters: Kathy (Steve) Marsh of Madrid, Iowa; Karen Hansen of Des Moines, IA; and Karel (John) Obenauf of Carrollton, Texas; six grandchildren: Julie (Bruce) Fridinger, Alicia (David) Jacobs, Wade (Lisa) Marsh, Matthew Marsh, Lisa Steenhoek and John Obenauf, Jr.; six great grandchildren; three brothers: Max (Ramona) Kersey of Grand Junction, IA; Darrell (Jo) Kersey of Ogden, IA; and Donald (Janice) Kersey of Des Moines, IA;  nieces and nephews; and Elden’s sister Doreen and her husband Skeeter Wilber of Jefferson.  Veva will be missed by her family and also her many friends and “adopted” daughters in the Plano area.
