Funeral services for Gren O Weant, 82, will be 10:00am Monday Nov 23, 2009 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with interment at Dawson Twp. Cemetery, Paton, IA. Visitation begins after 12 noon Sunday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00pm Sunday. Memorials suggested to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Gren O Weant was born June 17, 1927 in the family home outside Paton, Iowa, the son of Leroy Irving and Ella Florence Weant. Gren attended school at Paton until his father passed and he left school to continue farming the land which has been in the family since 1870. Gren witnessed the development of farming from horses to the advanced technology used today. In addition to farming, Gren held various jobs including driving truck, building steel bins, driving school bus and working at a local implement store. Gren was very generous with his time helping neighbors and others in the community in times of need.

Gren met his wife Helen May Kirkman while roller skating in Boone, Iowa. They were married July 21, 1946 in Red Oak, Iowa. From this union they were blessed with two daughters, Vicky Marlene and Pamela Ann.

Gren enjoyed playing basketball while in high school and continued his love of sports through supporting his daughters by attending their games and refereeing. He also enjoyed watching grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities.

Gren loved the outdoors. He took many quail hunting trips with friends to southern Iowa, ducking hunting with friends and annual fishing trips with his family to Canada. In later years he took up motorcycling and made many trips with his wife to see the country.

Gren was a member of the Friends Church until it was dissolved after which he and his family joined the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton.

Gren O Weant died November 19, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. He enjoyed 82 years of life. Surviving are his wife Helen, two daughters Vicky and Pam, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was looking forward to the birth of his seventh great-grandchild in February.
