A Celebration of Life Service for Kenny Lynch, 83, of Jefferson will be 11:00 am Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.  Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 2:00 pm Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church.

Kenny is survived by his wife Mary of Jefferson; his daughter Jane Parker of Jefferson; and his son John Lynch of Laveen, Arizona.

Kenneth Charles Lynch, age 83, of Jefferson, Iowa, died June 10, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, a victim of bladder cancer.  Kenny was born May 14, 1926 near Woodward, Iowa to Glen and Lola (Hines) Lynch.  His family moved to Greene County in the late 1920’s and Kenny entered school at Cooper, Iowa.  He later attended school in Jefferson, graduating with the class of 1945.  After graduating from high school, he went to Iowa State University where he played football for the Cyclones.
           
In January 1949, Kenny was inducted into the United States Army.  Upon completion of basic training, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Durlam on April 23, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He returned to Jefferson in January of 1950 and was recalled to active duty in September of that year to serve in the Korean conflict.  Kenny returned home in July of 1951 and worked in retail home furnishing until he began his own business in floor and wall covering installation in 1956.
           
Kenny and Mary celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 23, 2009.  Two children were born to this union: John Lynch of Laveen, Arizona, and Jane Parker of Jefferson, Iowa.
           
Kenny was an avid sportsman, involved in high school football, basketball, baseball, track, and college football.  Later he became a golfer for which he had great passion.  He twice was club champion at the local course and continued to enjoy that sport the rest of his life.  Kenny also became interested in auto racing and was a member of the pit crew for Rich Lyons.
           
Kenny remained close to the high school athletics, encouraging athletes to succeed, and for many years worked in the press box during football games.  He never missed attending any events in which his children or grandchildren participated.
           
Surviving Kenny are his wife, Mary; son, John and his wife Lily of Laveen, AZ; daughter, Jane Parker, and her husband Gary of Jefferson, IA; grandchildren: Shane Lynch of Laveen, AZ; Lindy (Parker) Lehman and her husband Nick of Paton, IA; Dana Parker of Gowrie, IA; and great-grandchildren: Parker and Mason Lehman of Paton, IA. 
           
Preceding Kenny in death were his parents, and his brothers, Ivan and Jay Lynch.
