Lyle Graue
Lyle Harold Graue was born May 12, 1914 in Lewis, Iowa to Lewis G. Graue and Martha Gaulke Graue. Lyle finished school after the eighth grade and began farming. When Lyle was 21 years old he had an accident and lost his hand in a corn picker. People were always amazed at the things that Lyle could do using one hand, especially hanging up Christmas lights. Lyle was very proud of the patent that he received for the Graue PTO adapter which was used to adapt the older style of PTO with the newer style. Lyle farmed for many years Southwest of Paton before going to work in Churdan where he ran the Theatre. He later went back to farming south of Paton. On January 12, 1963, Lyle married Lydia Erickson at her family’s home in Upsala, Minnesota, after dating each other for over ten years. Lyle often said he had worn out three cars while dating Lydia driving back and forth between Iowa and Minnesota. In 1970, Lyle and Lydia began to build a house in Paton, Iowa and which they later moved into in 1971. Lyle and Lydia spent many winters in Arizona and also loved to travel to other places. Lyle loved to go uptown in Paton and have coffee every morning with his friends. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton, Iowa Lyle Graue passed away on May 10, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lydia in 1986, two sisters, Ivy Foy and Velma Johnson and a brother Wilbur Graue. He is survived by his nephews Max Johnson of Dana, Iowa, Craig (Wanda) Erickson of Minnesota and his niece Linda (Dan) Berg of Minnesota. |
