Maxine Lehman
Maxine Shafer Lehman was born October 13, 1924 in Boone County, just southwest of Boxholm, Iowa. She was the daughter of Roy and Kittie Barker Shafer. When Maxine was 3 ½ years old the family moved to a farm 4 ½ miles south of Beaver, Iowa. Maxine attended Beaver Center #5 country school through the 8th grade. She attended the Beaver Consolidated School for one semester in 9th grade, then her family moved back to the Boxholm area in the spring of 1939. Maxine graduated from Boxholm High School in 1942. Maxine was united in marriage to Harold Lehman on November 25, 1943. They were the parents of three children: Ronald LeRoy, Carol Janice, and Randall Eugene. Maxine was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She dearly loved children. She taught boys and girls fellowship and the 3 & 4 year old children’s Sunday School class for 16 years. She was a 4-H leader for several years. Maxine enjoyed many crafts, especially knitting and crocheting afghans. Maxine and Harold lived on the Lehman family farm until 1984 when they built a new home in Paton. They spent 18 winters in the Twin Palms Mobile Home Park in McAllen, Texas. She enjoyed sharing her love for Jesus and often witnessed her love by leading the devotions at Twin Palms Park. Maxine Lehman became a resident of Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care in November 2004. There she died April 10, 2009 at the age of 84 years. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold who died May 7, 2005; brothers: Wayne, Loren, Jim, and Bob; and 2 sisters: Bernice Hein and Gerry Strand. Survivors include her two sons: Ron and his wife Pat of Paton, IA and Randy and his wife Denise of Dana, IA; one daughter: Carol Hanson and her husband Kent of Battlefield, MO; four grandchildren: Jowell Hanson and his wife Lisa, Janell Hanson McIntyre and her husband Brian, Nick Lehman and his wife Lindy, and Lisa Ebersole and her husband Adam; four great-grandchildren: Zoe McIntire, Zachary McIntire, Parker Lehman and Gabe Ebersole; one brother, Allen Shafer of Springfield, MO; two sisters: Charlene Ulrick of Ogden, IA and Judy Hale of Golden Valley, AZ; other relatives and friends. |
