Royal Holz
Royal Henry Holz, son of Henry Charles Holz and Beth Schilling Holz, was born on April 2, 1915, at home near Rippey, Iowa. Royal attended country school and later public school in Grand Junction, Iowa. Following graduation from Grand Junction High School in 1932, he worked on the family farm for four years and then attended college at Iowa State College, majoring in Animal Husbandry. There he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho agricultural fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Zeta and the livestock judging teams. On September 7, 1941, Royal married Marie Louise Grunewald from Blairstown, Iowa. The couple moved to a farm near Grand Junction, Iowa. Royal continued to farm in the Grand Junction area for his entire life. He was a Master Pork Producer, President of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, and a member of the National Cattlemen’s Association Board. Royal and Marie were blessed with five children, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Royal Holz died January 4, 2009, in his apartment at the Gardens, Jefferson, Iowa. He was 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie, in 2001; his mother and father, brothers, Russell and William, sister, Belva Jewett, and brothers-in-law, Myron Jewett, Henry and John Grunewald. Survivors include five children, Helen (Ron) Raikes, Royal H. Holz II (Bunny), John (Elaine) Holz, Howard (Mary Ellen) Holz, and Mary (Reg) Clause; 14 grandchildren, Molly, Aaron, Adam (Jennifer), David (Krystal), James, and Beth Holz, Heather (Patrick Neill), Abbie (Adam Gouttierre) and Justin Raikes, Ashley (Jeremy) Johnston, Ebban and Celia Clause, and Alexis (Jason) Hooper; and 10 great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Ilse, Ethan and Adam Hooper, Ben and Taylor Johnston, Xavier and Theo Gouttierre, and Henry and Annabeth Holz. |
