Raymond Smith Funeral Services for Raymond Smith, 89, of Jefferson will be 10:30 am Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 10:30 am Monday, April 20, 2009. The family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Raymond Elwood Smith, son of Earl C. and Wilda Estella (Augustus) Smith, was born April 8, 1920 in Scranton, Iowa. He attended Jackson Township Country School #4 for 8 years and graduated from Scranton High School in 1937. Raymond married Marcella Ferne Dillivan on March 15, 1941 in Freemont, Nebraska. They raised three daughters and one son in Jefferson. Raymond worked from 1937 to 1944 at the Conoco Oil Station in Jefferson. In 1945 he began a career with the Greene County REC as a Ground Man and went on to become Line Superintendent until his retirement in 1985. Raymond and Marcella retired to Tempe, AZ in 1985, but returned to Jefferson in 2000. Raymond was a past member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Pyle Retirement Association, Odd Fellows Lodge and numerous other organizations. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, painting, gardening, camping, fishing and traveling; as well as attending sports, theatre and musical programs of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Raymond died April 17, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Marcella, his parents and grandson Jamie Henderson. Raymond is survived by his children; Connie (Gary) Henderson of Tempe, AZ, Karen Wright of Gilbert, AZ, Mary (Larry) Burkett of Rippey and Steven (Linda) Smith of Jefferson; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and brother Harry Smith of Webster City. |
