Ada L. VanGundy
Ada was born November 28, 1921 to Harlow and Bertha Walker. She attended and graduated from the Jamaica High School in Jamaica, Iowa. On May 29, 1940, Ada was united in marriage to Leo “Dave” Kenan. From this union four children were born: Tim, Tony, Terry, and Trudy. Leo passed away in July of 1962. On August 20, 1965, Ada married LeRoy VanGundy. Leroy passed away May 5, 2009. Ada enjoyed watching high school sports, being with family, playing cards, helping with bingo, Tuesday night “therapy group” at Tojo’s in Jamaica, as well as setting up the “Avenue of Flags” for many, many years at Richland and St. Mary’s Cemeteries. One of her greatest enjoyments was watching high school girls 6 on 6 basketball and attending the 6 on 6 state tournament games at the legendary “Barn” in Des Moines, Iowa for many years. Ada was a housewife and farmer in the Jamaica and Bagley areas her entire life. She is survived by her three sons: Tim Kenan (Sharon) of Cherokee, Iowa; Tony Kenan (Linda) of Norwalk, Iowa and Terry Kenan of Jamaica, Iowa. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Brad Ebert of Osceola, IA; Jennifer Ebert of Cherokee, IA; Dave Kenan of Cherokee, IA; Amanda Miller (Toby) of Bagley, IA; Amber Kenan of Jefferson, IA and Heather Sheeder of Guthrie Center, IA; two great-grandchildren: Noelle Ebert of Osceola, IA and Ryder Miller of Bagley, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, daughter Trudy Kenan, daughter-in-law Gayle Kenan, brothers Roy, Ray, and Reid Walker, and sister Edith Purdy.
