Funeral Services for Bertha Miller, 98, of Jefferson will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be at the Greenbrier Township Cemetery, Greene County, Iowa. Visitation will be after 10:00 am Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends at 1:00 pm one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation or the Greenbrier Methodist Church.
Bertha Lenore Cully Miller was born August 16, 1911, in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert LeRoy Cully and Flossie Thomas Cully. Bertha attended rural schools and Scranton High School. Bertha worked in Boone after graduation until she married Warren Miller on January 31, 1937, at Jefferson, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Bayard for seven years, then moved to the Stroud farm where they lived for 33 years before retiring in 1975 to the new home they built in Jefferson.
Bertha was a member of the Greenbrier Church since 1928. She served as parish secretary for the churches of Bagley, Greenbrier and Jamaica for 23 years. She retired in May of 1969.
After failing health, Bertha entered Greene County Long Term Care on December 18, 2007, where she lived until she passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the age of 98 years. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren in 1983, sister and brother-in-law Donna Mae and Wayne Cackler, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Russell and Violet Miller, Clair and Launa Badger, William and Helen Booth, one niece, Marilyn Cackler, and two nephews, Glen and William Miller.
Surviving Bertha are nieces and nephews: Don and Janice Badger, Joyce and Duane Clark, Mary and Jimmy Rogers, Carol and Scott Holmes, John and Joyce Badger, David Cackler, and very dear friends, Dennis and Sandy Ford, other relatives and friends.
