Dean Arbuckle
Richard Dean Arbuckle was born April 2, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Charles M. Arbuckle and Winifred Pettit Arbuckle. Dean graduated from Churdan High School in 1943, then attended George Washington University. Dean was a record clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., then entered the United States Navy on October 21, 1944. He served in the Philippines, and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1946. On January 3, 1945, Dean was united in marriage to Anna Fragos in Washington, D.C. They became the parents of 3 sons. When Dean returned to Greene County, he worked at the Dana branch of the Jefferson State Bank before opening Bowling Greene in Jefferson. He was state president of the Iowa Jaycees in 1959, and United States Jaycees National vice-president in 1960. Dean served in the Iowa Senate from 1968 - 1972. From 1973 – 1982, he worked for the Iowa Development Commission as International Trade Director, completing twelve missions to 48 countries. Dean was a longtime member of the Central Christian Church before more recently becoming a member of the Church of Christ in Jefferson. He also belonged to the American Legion and the Lions Club. Dean Arbuckle died June 2, 2010 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson. He was 84 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sisters Marie Mischke and Viola Miller, and his wife, Anna Morris. Survivors include his three sons: Craig (Karen) Arbuckle of Washington, IA; Steve (Emily) Arbuckle of Arcadia, CA; and Rick (Janet) Arbuckle of Tustin, CA; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to Disabled Veterans. Services were arranged by Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home. |
