And God said, The world needs a loving special new mother.  So on June 2, 1921 Elva June Vought was born to Arthur J. Vought and Gladys Clarinda Cox Vought on a farm southeast of Jefferson.  She attended country school and Pleasant Hill Church until 1935, when the family moved to Farnhamville where Arthur ran a blacksmith shop and Elva attended Farnhamville School and graduated in 1939.

On April 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Leslie Mullins of rural Paton and they were the parents of four girls and one son.  Her love extended to fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and four new great great grandchildren.

She and Leslie became a team who lived on and farmed the same farm for their seventy years together.  She loved her family, her home, her garden and helping care for the farm animals.  She loved flowers, especially Iris and at one time had about four hundred different breeds.  Her home and yard was a continuing bouquet of flowers and her home was a continuing life of love for the family and friends who came to enjoy her cooking and love for each one.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons, Blake Fox and David Chapell.  She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband of seventy years Leslie; her children, Janice (Jim) Gilley of Grand Junction, IA, Joyce (Stanton) Long of Sigourney, IA, Marilyn (Francis) Cody of Griswold, IA, Jolene (Chuck) Miller of Bellevue, NE, and Derwood Mullins of Paton, IA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ethel Knapp, Vera Bauer, and Eva Mullins; other relatives and friends.
