Funeral Services for Fern Dzuris, 87, of Jefferson will be 10:30 am Monday, May 10, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson.  Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 11:00 am Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home.

Fern Sylvester Dzuris was born October 31, 1922 in Osage, Saskatchewan, Canada.  Fern was raised by George and Georgia Dzuris after Fern’s mother, Zola DeMoss Smith died in 1927. 
           
Fern graduated from Dana High School in 1940.  He married Lola Mae Stevens on January 3, 1946.  Fern and Lola became the parents of one son, Richard Steven Dzuris.
           
Fern worked as a farm hand near Jefferson until 1952, then farmed northwest of Farlin, Iowa for seven years.  The family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1958 where Fern was employed in heavy construction as an equipment operator and foreman.  In 1980 the family moved to the Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota area, and Fern retired in 1984.
           
Fern and Lola returned to live in Jefferson, Iowa in 1992.  Fern was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson, where he was baptized in 1954. 
           
For 20 years, Fern and Lola spent their winters in Texas.  Fern enjoyed playing card games and pool.
           
Fern Dzuris died May 6, 2010 at the Greene County Medical Center.  He was 87 years of age.  Preceding him in death were his parents and two step-sisters.
           
Surviving are Fern’s wife, Lola Dzuris of Jefferson, IA; son Richard Steven Dzuris of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Roy V. Smith of Fort Dodge, IA; one sister, Beulah (Bobbie) Goodwin of El Cajon, CA; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
