Memorial Service for H. Charlotte McHugh, 85, of Jefferson will be 1:30 pm Friday, March 5, 2010 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.  Interment will take place at a later date in the Jefferson Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 11:00 am Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  Memorials are suggested to Iowa Hospice or P.A.W.S.

Helen Charlotte Averill McHugh, was born February 6, 1925, in Oak Park, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Merton Lile Averill and Catherine Zacek Averill.
           
Charlotte graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943.  After high school Charlotte went to work as a bookkeeper for the Fairmont Hatchery and then later the Fairmont Processing Company.  In 1954 Charlotte became the Acting CED for the ASCS office in Greene County and she worked for them until she retired in 1985.
           
On June 1, 1950, Charlotte was united in marriage to Gordon Benjamin McHugh in Jefferson, Iowa.  To this union were born two children:  Mark and Susan.
           
Charlotte enjoyed flying and she and Gordon both had received their pilot licenses.  She kept her license up for many years before letting it go.
           
Charlotte McHugh died February 27, 2010, at the Regency Park and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson, Iowa.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon in 2002, and her sister Clover Jean.
           
She is survived by her son Mark McHugh and his wife Shannon of Jefferson, Iowa; her daughter Susan Ikerd of Jefferson, Iowa; 3 grandchildren Chad Ikerd and his wife Gina Mae of Missoula, Montana, Alex McHugh of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Quinn McHugh of Ames, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
