Maureen Frances (Gymer) Hamann, daughter of George and Lydia (Conroy) Gymer was born on June 17, 1943 in Jefferson, Iowa.  She was the second of three girls. She grew up in Farlin and Jefferson, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1961.  Following high school she graduated from beauty school in Storm Lake in 1962.   She began working in Younker’s Hair Salon in Des Moines in November of 1962.  She also worked at Rondo’s in Jefferson. In 1984 she opened her own salon with Pat Snow called Silver Sheers until its closing in 1993. She then took a job working at AAI, along with a part-time position at The Tea Garden in Jefferson.

On July 22, 1968 Maureen was married to Kenneth Hamann at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson, Iowa.  To this union were born three children David, Dawn, and Doug.  Maureen spent the majority of her life living and working in Jefferson, Iowa.  In May 2005 she moved to Panora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Maureen was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson and also attended St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Panora.

Maureen was a very helpful, active, and high energy lady.  She always had a hard time sitting still.  When attending family gatherings, she often would be looking for something to do.  Maureen and Kenny were members of Lakeside Golf Course in Grand Junction, Iowa.  She was a member of the Tuesday Night Ladies League for many years.  She also enjoyed playing in couples tournaments with Kenny.  As David and Dawn grew old enough to play golf, she enjoyed playing in couples and other tournaments with them as well.  The Hamann’s always enjoyed playing golf at Lakeside and various other courses and really cherished Lakeside and its many families and friends.  Maureen also enjoyed playing cards, walking, playing bingo, and doing many craft projects over the years.

The joy of Maureen’s life was her grandkids; they are Tate, Tiffanie, Trevor, Kirk, Hannah, Blake, Broc, Brittleigh, Bellah, and Brystol.  She very much enjoyed their arrival and visits and it would always light her up when she could enjoy spending time with them.

Maureen enjoyed her time as a resident of Panora Nursing and Rehab Center.  She was very active in all the activities, and enjoyed the field trips to various attractions.  She would always volunteer and was noted for helping the staff and other residents when she was able.  The staff and residents were an extended family to her that her family has been grateful for.
