Neil Keith Carlson
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 10:30am Sunday. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:30pm Sunday. Memorials in his name may left for the family at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home. Neil Keith Carlson was born December 4, 1955 in Jefferson, Iowa to Doyle and Virginia (May) Carlson. Neil grew up in the Paton community, attending grade school at Paton Consolidated School and graduated from Paton-Churdan High School in 1974. His childhood was spent immersed in farming with his father and his grandfather. When not farming with them, he spent time farming with his toy farm equipment or reading history books. At a young age his sole focus was to become a farmer like his father and grandfather. Upon graduating from high school, he began farming with his dad. This partnership continued until his death. For several summers, Neil went with Jim Sandberg to Kansas to harvest wheat. Neil was an avid reader, especially of history and war. He loved his animals and always had a dog. He enjoyed spending time with family and never missed a Sunday dinner. Neil Carlson died June 24, 2010 at his home in rural Paton, Iowa. He was 54 years of age. Preceding him in death were his grandparents: Carl and Zoe Carlson and Lloyd and Helen May. Surviving are his parents, Doyle and Virginia Carlson of Paton, IA; two sisters: Carla Chow and her husband Mike of Pella, IA and Zoe Ann Havens and her husband Scott of Jefferson, IA; four nieces: Jessica, Kady, Maggie, and Sophia Havens, and a nephew, Dylan Havens; other relatives and friends. All his friends and family will miss his numerous phone calls and visits. |
