Funeral services for Opal Allen, 94, of Mesquite, TX, formerly of Grand Junction, IA, will be 10:00am Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.  Interment will be in the Junction Twp. Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Opal Mae Gilliland was born April 4, 1916 to Celell and Laura Gilliland in rural Dallas County, Iowa.

In 1932, she married Earl Comer of Granger, Iowa.  The couple had two sons, Eugene and Earl, Jr.

In 1942, she married William Allen of Rippey, Iowa with whom she had a son, Denny.

Opal lived and worked on the Allen family farm for many years before moving to Perry, Iowa in the early 1970’s.

From 1981 to 2007, Opal resided in Grand Junction, Iowa before moving to Mesquite, Texas to be near family.

Opal enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, leather working, playing solitaire, putting together puzzles, watching her “stories”, and painting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her four brothers: Manfred, Joseph, Clifford and Harry; her sister, Helen; and two sons: Eugene and Earl “Pork” Comer.

Opal is survived by her son, Denny Allen and his wife, Glenna, of Rockwall, Texas; daughters-in-law Sharon Comer of Grand Junction, Iowa and Marjorie Comer of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
