Truly a “Greene County boy”, to borrow a phrase, who loved and was loved by his family, community and outreach thereof, was Stuart McGregor.
Born in Bristol Township, August 4, 1964. A 5th generation of Irish ancestry in this county, of which he was very proud, the 6th child to a family of seven children.
As a youth he was an active participant in St Joseph Catholic Church as an acolyte, the Hardin Happy Hustlers 4-H Club with sheep as his major project, Little League baseball as a “Card” and Senior League as a “Met”. Here he developed many loyalties to his coaches as mentors.
His role in the high school production of Music Man as Tommy, was high on his list of good experiences.
After graduation he toured northwest Iowa and a convention experience in Pittsburg, PA with an ecumenical, musical and narrative group “Your Children, Your Promise” which emphasized the recognition of 1979 as the “International Year Of The Child” and raised money for ‘Water for Kenya”.
Musically speaking, he was a drummer in the family band that had the honor of playing for President Ford at the Iowa State Fair, and later he became one of the vocalists in the group.
As a young adult, tending God’s green earth became paramount in his life, an inherited love of the land. This love came to fruition as he worked with and for Max Naylor and his farming interests for 20 years, and most recently with Ausberger farms.
Other interests and experiences at one time or another were hunting, State Fairs, yearly family outings at Fillenwarth Beach at Lake Okoboji, the family trip to Ireland and visiting the Irish cousins there, Clydesdales, woodworking projects restoring family furniture, Nascar, softball, RAGBRAI, and the love and loyalty of family and friends.
