Funeral services for Virgil E. Henrichs, 77, of Grand Junction, Iowa, will be 1:30pm Thursday May 8, 2008 at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction. Cremation will follow the service, with interment of the cremains at a future date in the Paton Twp. Cemetery, Paton, Iowa.
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Grand Junction after 4:00pm Wednesday, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday.
Virgil Edward Henrichs was born September 6, 1930 in Boone County, Iowa. He was the son of James Edgar Henrichs and Frona Mae Piatt Henrichs.
Virgil attended school in Paton, Iowa. Following his schooling, he farmed with his dad. In January 1952, Virgil was called into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1953.
Virgil worked at the Beaver Elevator and the Grand Junction Tile Factory for many years. He also did corn shelling in the Grand Junction area.
Virgil was an avid sports fan for the East Greene Hawks. He attended nearly every sporting event. Virgil had a remarkable knack for remembering his friends’ birthdays. He loved visiting with his friends, and enjoyed playing cards with his friends.
Virgil E. Henrichs died at his home in Grand Junction on May 5, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, and three brothers: Leon, LoDelle, and Harold. Survivors include two sisters: Marie Ewing of Webster City, IA and Goldie Woltz of Jefferson, IA; two brothers: Dean Henrichs and his wife Pat of Omaha, NE; and Keith Henrichs and his wife Norma of Boxholm, IA; sister-in-law Dorothy Henrichs of Boxholm, IA; special friend Gwen Craven of Boone, IA and 16 nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Memorials in Virgil’s name may be given to the family or left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Grand Junction.
